About Us

What we're aiming for

Our Purpose

The Trust was formed in October 2023 with the following charitable purposes which reflect both the new Trust’s initial projects and the range of future activities likely to benefit our community as we move forward.

  • The advancement of citizenship and economically sustainable development.
  • The advancement of arts, heritage, culture and science.
  • The provision of recreational facilities or the organisation of recreational facilities with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended.
  • The advancement of environmental protection or improvement including the education of the community about its environment, culture and/or history.
  • The relief of those in need.
  • The saving of lives by the provision and maintenance of the defibrillator and associated training; the promotion of water safety and similar activities.

Our Projects

The Trust has delivered or is working on the following projects:

  • The old phonebox has been transformed into 'The Wee Community Hub' (Ionad Càrn Bàn) which now contains a Defibrilator and a book exchange.
  • The replacement of the fencing surrounding the children's playpark in Heatherbank.
  • Successfully applied for £5,000 of funding from the Nadara A’Chruach Wind Farm Community Fund. The money has been used to commission a short film focusing on our village, past, present and future, through the eyes of its residents.
  • Through engagement with the High School, a Cairnbaan Community Trust Logo was designed by a pupil and added to CCT Communications and the website.
  • The erection of a Community Noticeboard near to the Bus Stop at Lock 8 on the Crinan Canal.
  • Successfully completed the Community Asset Transfer of the two Forestry and Land Scotland Buildings which are adjacent to Lock 8 on the Crinan Canal and brought the buildings into Community Ownership as of 10/10/25.

We envision a thriving community where residents are connected, supported, and empowered. Our vision is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone has the opportunity to flourish, and the unique character of Cairnbaan is celebrated.

We believe that together, we can make Cairnbaan an even better place to live, work, and play.

Community Development

We aim to actively engage in projects that contribute to the growth and development of Cairnbaan. This could include infrastructure improvements, environmental initiatives, and other programs that enhance the overall quality of life for our residents.

Local Initiatives

Cairnbaan Community Trust aims to support and collaborate with local businesses/organisations, artists, and entrepreneurs. We believe in the strength of our community and hope to be able to work to create opportunities for economic growth and sustainability.

Environmental Stewardship

Preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of Cairnbaan will be a priority for us. We aim to undertake projects that promote environmental conservation, sustainability, and the responsible use of our local resources and environment.

Social Well-being

Assuming that we are successful with the Asset transfer process for the Forestry buildings, we aim to organize events, workshops, and other activities that bring our community together. From cultural celebrations to educational programs, Cairnbaan Community Trust aims to create a strong sense of belonging and connection among residents.
