Forestry Buildings now in Community Ownership
Cairnbaan Community Trust (CCT) are delighted to announce that the Forestry & Land Scotland (FLS) buildings at Lock 8 in Cairnbaan are now in Community Ownership.
The ownership transfer took place on Friday 10th October 2025 when all the current Trustees of Cairnbaan Community Trust, attended at the site and Andy Hunt, the West Region Manager for Forestry & Land Scotland officially handed over the keys to the buildings to Jim Maitland, Chair of CCT. Andy also handed over a symbolic large key which was specially made for the occasion by one of his children whose efforts were much appreciated.
The legal process took much longer than we had hoped but planning is already underway to carry out essential external repairs and refurbishment using the remaining grant money received from the Scottish Land Fund (SLF) as well as money gratefully received from the Nadara A’Chruach Wind Farm Community Fund.
The Trustees would like to sincerely thank everyone who has helped and supported the Trust in getting the Community Asset Transfer process completed.
We are also planning an open day where the Community will be able to come along and see the buildings. Our AGM is due in November and that seems the ideal time for existing and new members to gather together to plan the next steps for the buildings to benefit the community for years to come.
Look out for more details on the AGM / Open Day which will be published very soon.

How can we all help and support the work?
We will be in contact with the members of the community that kindly volunteered to assist with their skills, energy and time so that the buildings can be made safe and suitable for the community and general public.
If you haven’t previously offered your assistance, we would very much welcome your help in whatever way you can, just Contact Us to let us know what you can offer.
Although CCT has been awarded some significant funds to purchase, refurbish and repair the FLS Buildings in Cairnbaan, we will still require further funds for the internal work and work on the land surrounding the buildings.
With ownership of the buildings, we now have ongoing costs such as Electricity and Insurance etc. Key members of the Trust are working to apply for more of the funding available but members and supporters can also help with this, just get in touch.
