About Us

What we do

The Trust is a Scottish Charity solely focussed on bringing benefits to the village of Cairnbaan. Its origins stem from an informal group of residents acquiring the redundant BT phone box and successfully negotiating the installation of the defibrillator, thus creating a wee community hub with book exchange, (naming it Ionad Càrn Bàn to reflect the Gaelic heritage).

Other small community music and cultural projects followed, until early 2023 when we started to explore the possible transfer of redundant forestry buildings to community ownership – a major step for a community with no existing assets, or the legal structure to pursue an Asset Transfer.

October 2025 will mark the second anniversary of our registration with the Scottish Charities Regulator which enabled us to negotiate the transfer of the forestry buildings.  After just two years we are now on the verge of completing the transfer to provide assets and opportunities to benefit our community over future years.

We believe that together, we can make Cairnbaan an even better place to live, work, and play.
